Internship Programs

Introduction

The Veterinary Specialty Centre of Newfoundland and Labrador is pleased to announce the availability of the Small Animal Rotating Internship and Small Animal Surgery Internship within the province’s sole referral and emergency practice. As of 2023, the internship program has been enhanced with the appointment of its dedicated Program Coordinator and a renewed emphasis has been placed on fostering a healthy work-life balance. Should you have any inquiries or require further information, please feel free to reach out to our Program Coordinator.

Overview of the Programs

The internship programs at VSCNL have start dates around the end of June and mid-July, depending on the type of internship. The program has a total duration of 52-53 weeks, which includes 2 weeks of vacation and 1 week of orientation. The distribution of the remaining weeks will be based on the available specialties and the number of interns. Year-to-year variations may occur. We encourage our interns to participate in research, and Continuing Education (CE) is allowed with a $1500 allowance. We offer a competitive internship salary, and as of 2023, we have implemented a 4-day workweek schedule to enhance work-life balance during the program. All interns are required to do rotations and be on-call for the surgery service, as well as check on patients during the weekends.
